Rhodes Itinerary

TYPICAL DAILY SCHEDULE

Day 1

  • Meet our group in Rhodes Old Town at the selected hotel.
  • Welcome drinks at 5.30pm, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2

  • Breakfast at hotel.
  • Your tutor this morning will distribute your art materials and equipment.
  • Free time to explore the Old Town of Rhodes, which was built by the Knights of Saint John in the 14th century. You will be amazed by the sheer magnitude and beauty of this old town and its incredible architecture and endless alleyways. Rhodes Old Town has been declared a World Heritage site and while walking through, it is like being transported back to medieval times.
  • Enjoy your own selected lunch before meeting up with our painting group.
  • Afternoon painting session within hotel surroundings. Your tutor will first give a watercolour demonstration for beginners, while those using other mediums can experiment with their materials.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant.
  • After dinner, tasting of local Greek desserts.

Day 3

  • Breakfast at hotel.
  • Local bus travel to Kallithea Springs.
  • Morning painting session at Kallithea Springs of one of the many art deco structures. This magnificent seaside monument is a unique combination of nature, architecture and history, offering visitors a very special cinematic scenery. Since the 7th century, the springs were famous for their therapeutic powers. The Spa, Rotunda Hall and Terrace and gardens all have pebble stone mosaics. The surroundings are adorned with impressive gardens, pine and palm trees.
  • Enjoy a packed lunch, and then have free time to explore and photograph the impressive grounds. This area also offers seaside vantage points for those who wish to climb to see more.
  • Local bus travel back to Rhodes Old Town.
  • Dinner in Rhodes Old Town.

Day 4

  • Breakfast at hotel.
  • Walk to ferry terminal close by, for ferry connection to the nearby island of Symi.
  • Free time to explore the stunning island of Symi. Often called the jewel of ‘Dodecanese’, Symi is one of the most picturesque islands in Greece. The colourful neoclassical architecture of its villages and beautiful main harbour are a real highlight of any visit to this charming and tranquil place. Symi is a fishing island famous for its sea sponge industry, as well as its magical harbour, colourful houses and beautiful beaches.
  • Enjoy your own selected lunch before meeting up with our painting group.
  • Afternoon painting session in Symi Port (named Yialos) of neoclassical houses. This style of architecture dates back to the 19th century. It features symmetrical elements, pleasing proportions, exterior shutters, and pediments supported by whitewashed representations of columns, imitating the style of ancient Greek temples.
  • Early dinner & drinks at Symi Port.
  • Ferry connection back to Rhodes, followed by tasting of local Greek ice-creams.

Day 5

  • Breakfast at hotel.
  • Morning painting session in Rhodes Old Town of the Museum of Decorative Arts. We will focus on painting its interesting exterior with bougainvillea trees. During medieval times, this building was once home to the Arsenal of the Knights at Argyrokastro Square.
  • Enjoy your own selected lunch before meeting up with our painting group.
  • Private bus transfer to a fabulous local winery to enjoy tasting a number of local wines. Here, we will also be participating in a Rhodesian cooking class, which includes our delicious dinner with drinks.
  • Evening private bus transfer back to Rhodes Old Town.

Day 6

  • Breakfast at hotel.
  • Private bus transfer to the south part of the island to visit the majestic village of Lindos. The ancient city of Lindos is extremely beautiful and nestled at the foot of a steep rock and surrounded by azure waters. Its traditional medieval history encapsulates this magnificent settlement, with its sugar cube white houses amidst the mosaic paved winding streets and architectural wonders. The Acropolis of Lindos located on top of the hill, is an ancient temple with majestic towers. Many shops and restaurants, as well as roof garden terraces can be found in every corner of the town.
  • Morning painting session in Lindos of a unique Rhodesian door. These are a key fabric of the village’s architecture and beauty, dating back to the 10th century.
  • Enjoy your own selected lunch with free time to explore the town and even climb the Acropolis, if you wish.
  • Pre-dinner drinks on a beautiful Roof Garden Terrace with views of the Acropolis of Lindos.
  • Private bus transfer back to Rhodes, stopping along the way for a traditional Greek dinner, at the beautiful seaside village of Stegna.

Day 7

  • Breakfast at hotel.
  • Morning painting session in Rhodes Old Town of the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights, also known as the Kastello. This gothic inspired medieval palace was built in the 7th century, originally as a Byzantine fortress. The Knights of Rhodes were a military force that fought the pirates in the Mediterranean. If time, you can also enter to experience the Palace.
  • Enjoy your own selected lunch before meeting up with our painting group.
  • In the afternoon painting session, we will complete unfinished artworks. If time, you can combine this with last minute sightseeing and/or shopping.
  • Dinner at a local restaurant with group display of artworks produced.

Day 8

  • Breakfast in the Old Town.
  • Goodbyes and check out at 11.00am.
  • Own transfer to airport for connecting flight.

The order and actual timing of our proposed activities during the above 7 day program may need to change, subject to any unforeseen weather conditions, changes to transport schedules and/or availability of local services. Every effort will be made to keep to our proposed itinerary.
